The late director Richard Attenborough was the creative force behind the 1985 musical film version of A Chorus Line, which starred Michael Douglas and Terrence Mann with a screenplay by Arnold Schulman. Like the original musical, which first ran on Broadway from 1975 to 1990 and was revived multiple times, A Chorus Line chronicles the ups and downs of a group of backing dancers working on Broadway. Here in all its 1985 sonic glory, "What I Did for Love" serves as the film's showstopping anthem, an emotional power ballad that packs a serious punch and illuminates the dancers' dedication to their craft.
