The Hydra is both a many-headed serpentine water monster in Greek and Roman mythology and the opening track from Toto's 1979 album of the same name. A musical odyssey of its very own, "Hydra" sails close to prog-rock territory, clocking in at over seven minutes long and boasting disparate sections and tempo changes. The fantasyland, fairytale-like lyrics tell the story of a modern-day spellbound "lady" "preyed upon by the wolves in Times Square," and "innocent 'n caged in sanctuary," with a "Dragon Lord playing solitaire" and also makes references to "fireballs" and "summer solstice." "Do you want your freedom / Do you want my love / Do you want your freedom / From the man who lives above," asks the chorus. Hydra was the second studio album from the US rockers and made it to Number 37 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart at the time.
