"I'll Be Around" is a song popularized by Detroit-based R&B vocal group The Spinners, who included it in their self-titled Atlantic debut in 1973. Written by Thom Bell and Phil Hurtt and produced by the former, the track was recorded at the legendary Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia and features smooth backing instrumentation by the studio's house band MFSB. Originally released as a B-side to the single "How Could I Let You Get Away" in 1972, "I'll Be Around" quickly became an unexpected radio hit, causing Atlantic to flip the single over. The song signified a major milestone in The Spinners' career, earning them their first Number 1 single on the American R&B charts and reaching Number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. In the decades that followed, "I'll Be Around" received the cover-version treatment by artists such as The Moments, The Afghan Whigs, and Hall & Oates, whose rendition reached Number 6 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart in 2004.
