The Spinners formed in Ferndale, Michigan in 1954 and came into their own during the '60s and '70s, amassing a catalogue of hit singles and albums largely produced by Jamaican-born American producer Thom Bell. Love song "How Could I Let You Get Away" is the perfect embodiment of this fruitful creative partnership, characterised by strings-laced production and soft, smooth vocal harmonies typical of the venerated R&B vocal group, with lead vocals from Philippé Wynne and Henry Fambrough and backing vocals from Bobby Smith, Pervis Jackson, Henry Fambrough and Billy Henderson. Four years after the release of "How Could I Let You Get Away" – which was released as a single in 1972 with "I'll Be Around" on the B-side – The Spinners, who are still active as a touring band, but with Henry Fambrough as the last surviving member, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2015, they were nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
