"Crackerman" is a song from Stone Temple Pilots off their groundbreaking debut album Core. Sung by vocalist Scott Weiland, the song is about addiction. It opens with lyrics describing the struggle of trying to kick his habit, including mention of the rubber band, or tie, and the metaphor of a gun for the needle. "Kickin' as I'm trying to sleep, got the mud beneath my shoes / rubber band, rubberband gun in hand, gun in hand I wanna use." Core shot to #1 and sold more than eight million copies, proving that fans were still yearning for album-oriented rock which was popular in the 70s. Weiland died of an overdose of alcohol and pills on his tour bus in 2015. He was 48. Following his death, his STP bandmates issued an open letter to the tortured singer. “You were gifted beyond words, Scott. Part of that gift was part of your curse.”
The backing track for "Crackerman" is available with background vocals or as an instrumental on Karaoke Version.
