"Watching You" is a song by Ohio-based funk band Slave, released in 1980 as the second single from their fifth album, Stone Jam. Formed in 1975 by trumpeter and multi-instrumentalist Steve Washington and trombonist Floyd Miller, the group burst onto the scene in the late 1970s with their vibrant blend of funk, R&B, boogie, and disco music. After delivering a series of well-received albums for the Cotillion label, including Slave (1977), The Hardness of the World (1977), The Concept (1978), and Just a Touch of Love (1979), Slave refined their sophisticated brand of funk music even further on 1980's Stone Jam, which proved the band's biggest commercial effort since the release of their self-titled album. This success was largely thanks to the track "Watching You," an uptempo funk-flavored track about falling in love at first sight. Written by Mark Antone Adams, Steve Arrington, Ray Turner, Steve Washington, and Danny Webster, "Watching You" quickly became one of Slave's most popular songs, reaching Number 6 on the US R&B charts.
