This slinky hot soul single from Ohio funksters Slave is a freewheeling odyssey of fresh, chatty vocals, alluring bass lines, and a showstopping guitar solo that turns up after about two minutes in and feels like it could go on forever. "Slide" was the lead track off Slave's debut self-titled record, which went to number 22 on the Billboard 200 and number six on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, but the song continues to do the rounds long after its inception, dropping into the soundtrack for Marcus Raboy's 2002 Christmas-themed stoner caper Friday After Next, as well as making an appearance on the eighth episode of the second season of American period drama The Deuce. The tune was also sampled for A Tribe Called Quest's "Go Ahead in the Rain", featured on their debut 1990 album, People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm, and the beat sampled for "Freeze" by Success N Effect in 1989.
