His debut album, Human, was the fastest-selling album by a British male artist for the decade. The eclectic artist told Apple Music that "Crossfire" was inspired by a dream he had where the world had ended, leaving only one other person and him. "Lights out, lights out on every street / It's like God turned the switch on us / Shout out, shout out for someone to hear / There's nobody left but the two of us." Rag'n'Bone Man traveled to Nashville to record Life by Misadventure. It was at the start of the Covid pandemic so he quarantined in a rented house until it was safe for him to go to the studio. He recorded the 13 song album in six days.
