Also known as Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox—on account of their founder, Long Island-born pianist Scott Bradlee—the revolving musical collective formed in New York in 2011 and have since put their retro-modern twist on a full range of classics and hits, catching an initial buzz with their doo-wop refit of Miley Cyrus's "We Can't Stop" in 2013. Steered by vocalist and saxophonist Amber Woodhouse, this 2023 track sees "American Boy" get the Postmodern Jukebox treatment for a 1970s samba-esque reimagining of the 2008 trademark single by UK rapper and singer Estelle, originally featuring Kanye West. Postmodern Jukebox included their version of "American Boy" on their 2023 album, The Fourth Tuning, on which they also rethink Taylor Swift and Metallica, among other artists.
