The Icelandic-Chinese artist born Laufey Lín Bing Jónsdóttir, and known mononymously as Laufey, rose to prominence with the release of her 2022 debut album Everything I Know About Love, showcasing her penchant for sparkling, jazz-informed pop. In 2023, she leaned into breezy bossa nova textures and breathy vocals for loungey love letter "From the Start," her sweet tones subtly masking the song's underlying message of unrequited love ("Oh, the burning pain / Listening to you harp on 'bout some new soulmate"). "From the Start" came out as a single in 2023 and was contained on Laufey's second studio album and breakthrough jazz-pop LP Bewitched, which finished at number two on the Icelandic albums chart and became her first full-length record to make chart headway in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Scotland, the UK, and the US. More importantly, however: Bewitched won Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.
