Jimmy Buffet is many things: restauranteur, sailor, pilot, television actor, manatee lover, and a music maker known for good-time tunes like "Margaritaville,” Come Monday,” and Cheeseburger in Paradise.” By design, Jimmy Buffet trades in boozy Carribean-flavoured fare, or what he calls 'gulf & western.' Written in 1996, "Jamaica Mistaica" sees him shift away from the Hawaiian shirts and tequila cocktails of his usually sunny delights to narrate a darker real-life event that took place on 16 January 1996 when his seaplane, the Hemisphere Dancer, was shot at by Jamaican police who incorrectly suspected them of drug smuggling. Luckily, no one was injured during the incident. "They shot from the lighthouse, they shot from the highway / They shot from the top of the cliff," he sings in the bridge, bright steel drums popping like candy in the background. "Jamaica Mistaica" was featured on Jimmy Buffet's 1996 album Banana Wind.
