Regional Mexican music was pushed to the forefront of the American national consciousness in 2023 thanks to Grupo Frontera and Bad Bunny’s collaborative hit, “Un x100to.” The emotive song—a fusion of Bad Bunny's game-changing Latin trap with Grupo Frontera's cumbia-norteño sound—charted in the top five of the US Billboard Hot 100 and followed the success of Grupo Frontera's “No Se Va,” which went to number three on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart in November 2022. "Un x100to" (a stylised iteration of the phrase “un por ciento,” which translates as “one percent” in Spanish) speaks to a variety of musical states—shimmering indie guitar-pop, norteño ballad and a bracing cumbia beat—and finds its broken-hearted protagonist mourning the end of a relationship. Bad Bunny and the Texas-originating Grupo Frontera performed the track live on the Coachella main stage during the festival’s second weekend in 2023.
