A popular song from the '30s, "East of the Sun (and West of the Moon)" was written by Brooks Bowman, an undergraduate member of Princeton University's Class of 1936, for the 1934 production of the Princeton Triangle Club's production of Stags at Bay, later becoming enshrined in Princeton Unversity lore. Taking on a new role as a jazz standard, it has since been recorded by everyone from Billie Holiday and Charlie Parker to Stan Getz and Diana Krall. Frank Sinatra first set his sights on the song in 1940, recording a version with Tommy Dorsey that featured a trumpet solo from UK jazz trumpeter and bandleader Bunny Berigan. However, this 1961 refresher for Tommy Dorsey tribute album I Remember Tommy... truly brought the jaunty song to life with modern recording techniques, offering a re-recording of the original assisted by the talents of fellow Tommy Dorsey conspirator Sy Oliver, who arranged and conducted the sessions.
