Coconut Grove reggae artist Eddie Lovette, formerly of Eddie and The Tropics, mixed Caribbean musical flavours with luscious soul while doling out sentimental lyrics straight from the heart. In 1969, he experienced his first moment in the international spotlight with his recreation of Bob Andy's "Too Experienced," which reached number 95 on the US Billboard Hot 100. He was later crowned Top International Male Singer at the Canadian Reggae Music Awards in 1984. With "Sad Songs Say So Much," which followed a year after that victory, he transformed a soft-rock classic by Elton John and Bernie Taupin (the lead single from the former's 1984 album Breaking Hearts) about a heartbroken narrator who finds solace in the blues into a sunshine-drenched reggae scorcher. "Sad Songs Say So Much" was included on Eddie Lovette's 1985 album All for You, which preceded his 1986 offering Rockers for Lovers Vol.2.
