Heavy metal-meets-hard rock game-changers Def Leppard formed in Sheffield, England in 1977 and spent the '80s at the top table of rockers, churning out hits and celebrated albums like 1981's Mutt Lange-produced High 'n' Dry and 1987's pop-minded fourth LP, Hysteria. Fast forward a few decades and they have shown no signs of slowing down, now on their 12th album – the T.Rex and glam-rock-inspired Diamond Star Halos, released in 2022. The second track on the album, "Kick" nods its head to Mark Bolan's aforementioned group, as well as Slade, and sees the band deliver a potent brew about an intoxicating love affair ("You're in my head again and I know where it's goin' / I know I'm gonna need another taste of your poison, yeah / You're the pulse to my motor, my electric desire / You're my star blazed rhythm, let me dance in your fire"). Diamond Star Halos is yet more proof that when it comes to rock 'n' roll, age is but a number.
