From 1979's "Longer" and "Leader of the Band" to 1980's "Same Old Lang Syne," Dan Fogelberg already had an armful of solid hits under his belt when he unleashed "Missing You" in 1982 – and unwitting launched a yacht rock classic. Written and recorded by the US singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist – who also performed guitar on the song – at Bennett House studios in Franklin, Tennessee, where he worked with producer and Elvis Presley bassist Norbert Putnam and drummer Joe Vitale, this soft-rock travelogue sailed all the way to number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stopped off at number 29 in Canada at the time of its release, faring even better in the Adult Contemporary world, where it reached number 11 on the Canadian Adult Contemporary chart and number six on the US chart. Dan Fogelberg included "Missing You" on his Greatest Hits LP of 1982 and the jam remains one of his best-loved tunes.
