"Stop!" gave Jane's Addiction a number-one hit on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart in 1990 at a time when the phenomeon of alternative rock was starting to establish its grip on the world. "Stop!" is a blistering example of the originality of the Jane's Addiction formula: visceral, shrill vocals from the one-of-a-kind Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell (aka the "Godfather of Alternative Music"), a junkyard of groove-aware rock instrumentation that drew influence from a myriad sources, and themes about redemption and humanity. "Stop!" later made an appearance on the 2006 music video game Guitar Hero II and was one of the singles released from the band's now-classic album Ritual de lo Habitual (1990), along with "Been Caught Stealing."
