Simple acoustic strumming enters early on "Something in the Orange (Z&E's Version)," the 2022 song from Oklahoma country artist Zach Bryan that yielded his most successful single to date. The harmonica that joins the guitar andZach Bryan's hoarse, aching voice draw on a deep sense of loneliness in just a few passages. "And I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't / 'Cause if I say I miss you, I know that you won't / But I miss you in the mornings when I see the sun / Somethin' in the orange tells me we're not done", he sings in the second verse, speeding into its heartbreak message with all of his might. Zach Bryan blames himself for the breakup, claiming to have sowed the seeds of doubt in her head ("I have poisoned myself again, somethin' in the orange / Tells mе you're never comin' homе"), but ultimately realises that he must move on. "Something in the Orange" was released as a single from Zach Bryan's third album American Heartbreak, with the song packaged in two different versions. The slightly more stripped-back "Z&E's Version" was produced and mixed by Eddie Spear and recorded at Electric Lady Studio in New York City.
