The late Waylon Jennings was at the top of his game when he released "I Ain't Living Long Like This," which was written by Rodney Crowell and first recorded by Gary Stewart on his 1977 album Your Place or Mine (featuring singers Rodney Crowell and Nicolette Larson as backing vocalists). In 1979, Waylon Jennings – who released hit single "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys" in 1978 – recorded "I Ain't Living Long Like This" for his 1979 studio album What Goes Around Comes Around and notched up his eleventh country Number 1.
