Austin rock 'n' rollers Uncle Lucius introduce us to "Keep the Wolves Away" with the gentle strum of an acoustic guitar, before accordion floats in for a rootsy meditation. Written by the band’s lead singer and frontman Kevin Galloway, the autobiographical folk song tells the story of Galloway's father, who was severely injured in a chemical accident while working on a tanker ship in Texas's Galveston Bay. "Well I was barely thirteen when the company man / Tried to dig my dad his grave / It happened on a French-owned tanker ship / Spillin' poison in the Galveston Bay / Where the liquid fire filled his lungs and his eyes", he sings with gut-wrenching honesty. "Keep The Wolves Away" originally appeared on the 2012 Uncle Lucius album And You Are Mebut became a working-class anthem, speaking to communities everywhere, while giving Uncle Lucius a beloved breakout track that boosted their career.
