One of Toto's best-known tracks, "Hold the Line" was a colossal hit for the yacht rock flagbearers in October 1978 (featured on their 1978 eponymous debut studio album) with the band – who had freshly emerged on the music scene – going to Number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, topping the chart in South Africa and hitting Number 14 on the UK Singles Chart. For a debut single, that was quite the achievement. Written by the band's keyboardist and co-founder David Paich, the inimitable Bobby Kimball sang the song's vocals, with its titular phrase about maintaining your existing stance. In the terms of this song, the protagonist is asking his lover to stick around and give their relationship a chance: "Hold the line / Love isn't always on time / Hold the line / Love isn't always on time." A '70s classic about love, relationships and good hair.
