Released as the second single from his 1994 album Wildflowers, the Tom Petty track "You Wreck Me" is an anthemic rocker with a driving beat and simple three-chord progression. The track's lyrics, penned by Tom Petty, refer to an addictive hot-and-cold relationship. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' lead guitarist (and collaborator on the track) Mike Campbell has stated that "You Wreck Me" was originally titled "You Rock Me," but the band found the song's title too clichéd. Originally, the track was shelved until Tom Petty changed the word "rock" to "wreck." Following this simple change, the band agreed to move forward in this new direction for the song. "You Wreck Me," which features the production skills of Campbell and Petty, was also co-produced by famed hip-hop, metal, and alternative rock producer Rick Rubin. The song made it to number 2 on the US Mainstream Rock chart, and entered the Top 100 for Australia's ARIA (number 72) and the UK Singles charts (number 88). It also contributed to Wildflowers being one of Tom Petty's most acclaimed albums, with critics and audiences alike singling it out as an album highlight.

Great version. The ability to get it in a different key (E instead of F) makes all the difference for me to be able to practice along with it. Thanks!
