Tino Martin began his musical trajectory in the early 2000s and rose through the ranks of Dutch stardom to become a household name in Nederpop, with his breakthrough album arriving in 2015 via the Edison Award-winning LP Jij liet me vallen. Famed for his portfolio of cover songs, in 2018 he turned his attention to the Tina Turner megahit "Simply the Best"—also known simply as "The Best"—which was originally written by Mike Chapman and Holly Knight. This live version was included on Tino Martin's 2018 album In The Round (Live in de Ziggo Dome 2018), which went to number 48 in the Netherlands. Tina Turner—who passed away on 24 May 2023 at the age of 83, after years of illnesses—scored a signature hit with "Simply the Best" in 1989 and included the song on her seventh studio album, Foreign Affair. The track has also been covered by a number of other artists, including originator Bonnie Tyler, who first took on the tune in 1988.
