Few bands live up to the name “supergroup” like The Traveling Wilburys. The group’s roster was composed of legendary singers and songwriters of rock and roll: Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, and Roy Orbison. The Traveling Wilburys first joined together to record a collaboration for George Harrison’s single, which turned into Handle With Care.” The song was deemed too good to be a one-off, so the group decided to record a full album. Released in October 1988, the song was written primarily by George Harrison, but songwriting credits are shared equally by all members. Handle With Care,” a song that mixes melancholy lyrics about loneliness with a jaunty folk-rock backing, was a hit: it peaked at Number 45 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, and also charted internationally. After George Harrison’s passing, Tom Petty and his band The Heartbreakers performed the song at the tribute concert Concert For George, as well as at George Harrison’s solo induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
