One of the most ubiquitous Southern rock anthems, "Battleship Chains" was originally written by American musician Terry Anderson, who performed with the bands The Woods and The Fabulous Knobs. A few years later, the song gained widespread notoriety after being covered by the Atlanta-based hard rock act The Georgia Satellites. Included in their 1986 eponymous studio debut, the band's version cranked the volume all the way up to 11, in tune with the era's decadent glam metal aesthetics. Coming on the heels of their massive hit "Keep Your Hands to Yourself," "Battleship Chains" peaked at Number 86 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Number 11 on the Mainstream Rock chart, also enjoying moderate chart success in Australia and the UK. Over the course of the next decades, the track went on to be covered by the R.E.M. spin-off Hindu Love Gods, Guns N' Roses' Izzy Stradlin, and Danish metal band Volbeat.
