You’d be hard-pressed to find a more revolutionary rock and roll group than The Beatles were in the early 1960s. Their first full-length album, 1963’s Please Please Me, kicks off with “I Saw Her Standing There,” a song written by the formidable songwriting partnership of John Lennon and Paul McCartney (though primarily written by the latter). Like much of the band’s work, it was produced by the “fifth Beatle,” producer George Martin. The band’s influences are evident on the uptempo song, with a lot of early rock and roll sounds poking through. “I Saw Her Standing There” was also released as the B-side on the runaway smash hit single “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” and as such, it entered the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and stayed there for 11 weeks (reaching a peak position of Number 14). “I Saw Her Standing There” is widely recognized as one of the signature songs by The Beatles, and was ranked at Number 139 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
