Included in their groundbreaking 1966 album Revolver, The Beatles' "Doctor Robert" is perhaps the song with the most overt drug references in the Fab Four's catalog. The track's lyrics play around with the concept of a "Dr. Feelgood," a licensed medical professional that haphazardly prescribes illegal drugs to his patients. Even though numerous speculations about the real identity of a real Dr. Robert have been put forward since its release, John Lennon has claimed in an interview that the song was mainly about him. Written by John Lennon but credited to Lennon-McCartney, "Doctor Robert" is one of the album's more straightforward rock numbers and features a couple of slightly out-of-phase vocal tracks that enhance the surrealistic feel of the song. It also appeared on The Beatles' North American release Yesterday and Today (1966), which included songs from previous albums like Help! and Rubber Soul.
