"Soldier Side" is a song by Armenian-American heavy metal group System of a Down, included in their final studio album, Hypnotize, in 2005. Just like its companion album Mezmerize, released earlier that year, Hypnotize debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart as the group joined The Beatles, Tupac Shakur, and DMX as one of the few artists to land two albums at Number 1 on the same year. It was promoted through the singles "Hypnotize" and "Lonely Day," both of which enjoyed great popularity on the US Alternative Airplay chart. Hypnotize also contained one of the band's most poignant songs, the devastating album closer "Soldier Side." Entirely written by bass player Daron Malakian, "Soldier Side" perfectly showcases the band's ability to effortlessly switch between elegant instrumental passages and earth-shattering bursts of distortion, striking a delicate balance between both.
