Some songs are forever etched into the public consciousness and pop culture due to their appearance on films or TV shows. A great example of this is “Ballroom Blitz,” the 1973 hit by British glam rockers Sweet, which was a successful single on its own right before being further bolstered by heavy usage in films like Wayne’s World, Daddy Daycare, and The Sandlot: Heading Home. “Ballroom Blitz” was written by the duo of Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, and features the memorable performance of Sweet lead singer Brian Connolly (whose line “she thinks she’s the passionate one” would later go on to be sampled on the Beastie Boys tune “Hey Ladies”). “Ballroom Blitz” was produced by Phil Wainman, and appeared on the US version of Sweet’s album Desolation Boulevard. It marked Sweet’s biggest chart hit in the UK and abroad, peaking at Number 2 on the UK Singles chart and Number 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
