"Macarena" is a Flamenco pop song by Spanish duo Los del Río, originally featured on their 1993 album, A Mí Me Gusta. The origins of this tune date back to 1992 when Los del Río, touring South America, attended a Venezuelan soirée. There, they were captivated by the moves of a flamenco dance, prompting Antonio Romero Monge of Los del Río to spontaneously coin the chorus in her honor. Later, Monge altered the name to "Macarena," paying tribute to his daughter, Esperanza Macarena. In 1993, RCA Records propelled "Macarena" into the Spanish market with two transformative house remixes by Fangoria, intended to cater to the nightclub crowd. Yet, it was the 1996 Bayside Boys remix that shot the song into global stardom. Titled "Macarena (Bayside Boys Remix)," this rendition reached the number 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 1996, staying there for fourteen weeks and also dominating the US Cash Box Top 100. VH1 later honored it as the number 1 one-hit wonder in 2002, cementing its legendary status.
