New York City 1970s troupe Skyy (later renamed New York Skyy for UK releases owing to the existence of another UK group called Skyy) offer a masterclass in disco-funk satisfaction with this strutting floor-filler. Skyy's members originally comprised sisters Denise, Delores, and Bonny Dunning as vocalists, with guitarists Solomon Roberts and Anibal Anthony Sierra, keyboardist Larry Greenberg, bassist Gerald Lebon, and drummer Tommy McConnell who formed the group at the zenith of disco in 1977 but swam with the tide as the zeitgeist changed hands; they were successful as a crossover group, hitting the US pop charts with their Skyy Line album in late 1981. A boogie-flavoured slice of early '80s synth-funk, "Call Me" is a cheeky tale about having inappropriate designs on a friend's boyfriend and was featured as the second track on Skyy Line, giving the group their first R&B chart-topper while also reaching number 26 on the Billboard Hot 100.
