"Queen of Tejano music" Selena released her self-titled debut album in 1989 after signing with EMI Latin and scored a breakthrough with her third LP Entre a Mi Mundo in 1992, which soared to number one on the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums chart and stuck around for eight consecutive months. "Como la flor" – which later became known as one of Selena's trademark tunes – was released as the second single from the aforementioned career-defining album and written by Selena's brother and producer, A.B. Quintanilla. The cumbia-tinted "Como la flor," with lyrics comparing a dying flower to the phenomenon of losing love, gave Selena her first notable hit in the US and won Regional Mexican Song of the Year at the 1993 Premio Lo Nuestro awards. It was also nominated for Single of the Year at the 1993 Tejano Music Awards. Three decades later, "Como La Flor" was featured among the songs chosen to soundtrack Netflix's Selena: The Series (2020).
