"Walkin' in the Sun" is a deep cut from Chicagoan funk band Rufus, known for helping launch the career of lead vocalist Chaka Khan with hits such as "Sweet Thing," "Do You Love What You Feel," and "Ain't Nobody." After releasing their eponymous studio album in 1973, Rufus went for the brass ring with their 1974 gold-selling second studio full-length Rags to Rufus. The album yielded the hits "Tell Me Something Good" and "You Got the Love," and also featured the track "Walkin' in the Sun," a Jeff Barry cover featuring a soulful performance by singer Chaka Khan, backed up by a tight rhythm section and lush string arrangements that mirrored the song's hopeful lyrics. Despite not being one of their most known hits, Rufus helped popularized the track, which went on to be covered by a whole host of established artists such as Percy Sledge, The Walker Brothers, B.B. King, Glenn Campbell, and Lisa Keith.
