"Ghostbusters" is a song from the 1984 film of the same name. It was written by Ray Parker, Jr. with a little help from Huey Lewis and the News. When director Ivan Reitman insisted the film's title needed to be in the title of the song, Parker knew he was in for a challenge. The seasoned singer/songwriter had been writing for a long time, and had even co-written his first songs with Marvin Gaye at 16, but this was an unusual request. He was a successful session musician who played and wrote for dozens of top artists including Aretha Franklin, The Carpenters, The Supremes, and Stevie Wonder. He figured out a way to include the film’s title by using the question "Who you gonna call?" with the shouted answer of "Ghostbusters!"It was the pefect fit for the ghost-filled comedy starring Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd. After the song became a #1 hit, Huey Lewis sued Parker and Columbia Pictures for copyright infringment citing similarites between "Ghostbusters" and his song "I Need a New Drug." The three parties settled out of court for an undisclosed amount.
