Fuelled by Geoff Tate’s howling four-octave powerhouse vocal and a hair-raising solo from guitarist Chris DeGarmo, "Walk in the Shadows" captures the progressive metal titans Queensrÿche in all their histrionic gothic glory. Written by the two aforementioned band members—with additional songwriting contributions from guitarist Michael Wilton—this stadium-sized headbanger does anthemic and creepy in equal measure, evoking a fang-adorned number from the Lost Boys soundtrack as much as one of the heavy metal genre's all-time favourites. On "Walk in the Shadows," Queensrÿche conjure nocturnal vampiric imagery ("I can cure the hunger that burns in your heart") as they take a walk on the dark side through glam and goth metal terrain. The track was featured on the band's gothed-up second studio album Rage for Order, (1986) known for its embrace of the reverse echo and themes relating to robotics.
