One of the most Christmassy opening verses to ever grace the annals of festive fare, "The Christmas Song" paints a decidedly festive picture from the off. "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire / Jack Frost nipping at your nose / Yuletide carols being sung by a choir," purrs Natalie Cole, who did her father proud with her 1991 rendition of the classic Christmas song first made famous by the Nat King Cole Trio in June 1946. After several other revisions emerged over the years, in 1961 Nat King Cole recorded what is widely considered to be the definitive stereophonic version of the song, with a full orchestra arrangement from Ralph Carmichael. Natalie Cole later showcased the track on her 1994 Christmas album, Holly & Ivy, which featured one original song written by Gerry Goffin and Michael Masser and marked her first album of Christmas music, following her Grammy-winning 1993 album Take a Look.
