For their first new song since 2014's "Fake Your Death," eyeliner-clad emo heroes My Chemical Romance appear to be looking back at the unflinching fury of 2002 album I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. This six-minute stadium epic plunges into visceral screamo while hitting up doom metal and gloomy themes like death, aging, and the decaying condition of the world. Told through the eyes of an old man, the song opens with his viewpoint. "See the man who stands upon the hill / He dreams of all the battles won / But fate had left its scars upon his face / With all the damage they had done," sing-speaks Gerard Way following an eerie static-laced guitar intro. The lyrics also reference 9/11, ("He was there, the day the towers fell / And so he wandered down the road / And we would all build towers of our own / Only to watch the rooms corrode"), which was the catalyst for the band's formation, taking us back full circle to the beginning.
