In 2011, former Nashville Star alumni Miranda Lambert joined forces with singer-songwriters Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley to form the all-female country music supergroup Pistol Annies. They made their official debut on the CBS special Academy of Country Music's Girls' Night Out: Superstar Women of Country with the track "Hell on Heels," an outlaw-tinged tune that served as a declaration of principles from three seasoned performers reaching the peak of their artistic career. Entirely written by the trio, "Hell on Heels" was released as the album's first single on June 12, 2011, and rapidly became a pop crossover hit, reaching Number 55 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song eventually received Platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and pushed its parent album to the top of Billboard's Top Country Albums chart. Their studio debut Hell on Heels was later certified Gold after selling over 500,000 copies.
