The jazz pop standard "You'd Be Surprised" was originally written by American composer Irving Berlin and popularized by singer Eddie Cantor, who interpolated it with Ziegfield's Follies of 1919. Over the course of the next few years, numerous artists attempted to replicate the original version's success, including the All-Star Trio, Irving Kaufman, Orrin Tucker, Johnnie Ray, Billy Murray, and Olga San Juan, who revived the song for the Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire's Blues Skies in 1946. Eight years later, legendary actress Marilyn Monroe recorded one of the most memorable versions of the track, featuring alternate lyrics and her traditional breathy, childish register. "You'd Be Surprised" urges the listener to never judge a book by its cover, enumerating a long list of reasons why her partner is a good lover despite not looking the part. Marilyn Monroe's rendition of the tune can be found on her posthumous 2005 compilation album, Anthology.
