It is interesting how certain songs fail to resonate with the audience at first, but later regain new life after being covered by a different artist. Such is the case of the popular song "(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons," composed by William "Pat" Best, a founding member of the American vocal groups the Ink Spots and The Brown Dots. Originally written as a poem for his elementary school crush, the track was first recorded in 1945 under the name "Sentimental Reasons" by The Brown Dots. Even though the song was considered a commercial failure at the time of its release, it would be popularized a year later by The Nat King Cole trio, whose version spent 12 weeks on the Billboard Best Seller chart, peaking at Number 1. In the following years, "(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons" was covered by a whole host of artists, including Ella Fitzgerald & The Delta Rhythm Boys, Sam Cooke, and Linda Ronstadt, who recorded a jazz-flavored version for her 1986 album, For Sentimental Reasons.
