Released in early 1974 along with the B-side "Love Theme from Kiss," American hard rockers Kiss's debut single "Nothin' to Lose" offered a glimpse of the sleazy brand of rock and roll that would characterize the band throughout its lengthy career. According to bassist Gene Simmons, "Nothin' to Lose" is about attempting to sodomize his girlfriend, who is initially reluctant but ends up giving in to his demands. Originally included in Kiss' 1974 eponymous studio debut, the song features lead vocals by every single member of the band and additional instrumentation by pianist Bruce Foster. It is also one of the songs the group performed during their first national TV appearance on ABC's In Concert. Even though "Nothin' to Lose" failed to chart upon its release, it quickly became both a fan favorite and a staple of their live concerts, also making its way to the compilations The Originals (1976), The Box Set (2001), and Gold (2005).
