"(Everybody's Waitin' for) The Man with the Bag" is a song written by Irving Taylor, Dudley Brooks, and Hal Stanley in 1950. Performed in the big band jazz style that dominated the popular music scene in the 1950s, the track was sung by Kay Starr, a popular jazz singer who was also Hal Stanley's wife at the time. The song's lyrics abound with references to Santa Claus, who is referred to as the "man with the bag" and "Mr. Kringle." In the years that followed its release as a single, the song charted consistently on Billboard's list of most popular Christmas songs and was covered numerous times by artists from all genres, including swing and jump blues band Brian Setzer Orchestra, jazz vocalist Jane Monheit, and actor Seth MacFarlane. It was also featured in the legal dramedy Ally McBeal, where it was performed by actress Vonda Shepard. That particular version of the track was included in the holiday album Ally McBeal: A Very Ally Christmas (2000).
