Written in 1963 by Billy Edd Wheeler and Jerry Leiber and first pressed to wax by the former, "Jackson"'s initial incarnation came four years later as a pop single for Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood, peaking at Number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, and as a top-tier country classic for Johnny Cash and June Carter. The loved-up pair, who married the following year after Johnny Cash proposed to June Carter on stage, scored a Number 2 US Country chart single and won a Grammy Award in 1968 for Best Country & Western Performance Duet, Trio or Group. The song, which sketches out a previously flaming love that's "hotter than a pepper sprout" was given a new lease of life by Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon (who play Johnny Cash and June Carter, respectively) in the 2005 biographical musical romantic drama, Walk the Line, which also portrays the Johnny Cash proposal on film.

A very good track musically, but my one complaint is that the female solos are too low in volume. They're fine when meant for the duo, but just not loud enough.
