"If the World Was Ending" is a duet between Canadian singer-songwriter JP Saxe and American singer Julia Michaels. It was originally released on October 17, 2019, as the lead single from Saxe's second EP Hold It Together (2020) and had a strong chart performance throughout the world, reaching Number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaking at Number 14 on the Official UK Singles Chart. Besides both singers' passionate vocal performances, the piano-driven ballad features hazy atmospheric textures courtesy of producer Finneas, who helped them finish the track. Recorded in just one day during Saxe and Michaels' first collaborative session ever, "If the World Was Ending" is a plaintive meditation on the importance of human connections. It also earned JP Saxe his first Grammy nomination in the category of Song of the Year. In 2020, the song was featured in a charity campaign to support Doctors Without Borders during the COVID-19 pandemic.
