Nothing short of a British cultural institution, English pianist, bandleader, and TV host Jools Holland has had his fair of musical exploration over the years, delving deep into the genres of big band, jazz, and rhythm & blues, among others. In 2012, Holland took a swing at the Great American Songbook on the album The Golden Age of Song, which included the upbeat closing track "When You're Smiling (The Whole World Smiles with You)." Originally written by Larry Shay and Joe Goodwin in 1928, the song has been extensively covered throughout the years by everyone from Louis Armstrong to Rufus Wainwright and has since become a mainstay of American culture. Rooted in the boogie-woogie style that Holland is known and loved for, his take on "When You're Smiling (The Whole World Smiles with You)" features his backing band, Jools Holland's Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, a 20-piece ensemble that he formed in 1994.
