Opening the book on a fresh new chapter of their star-studded career, Las Vegas megastars Imagine Dragons hooked up with the legendary Rick Rubin (Beastie Boys, Johnny Cash, System of a Down, Tom Petty, AC/DC, Red Hot Chili Peppers) for their high-concept and hip-hop-influenced sixth album, Mercury – Act 2. On "Sharks," lead vocalist Dan Reynolds stirs up a stormy seascape of tricksters and dodgy people: "Trouble / Blood is in the rocky waters / Hide away your sons and daughters / Eat you alive / Levels / Better put your head on swivels / Dancin' with the very devil / Butter to knife." The song was written with Imagine Dragons guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist Ben McKee, and drummer Daniel Platzman, as well as "Sharks"' producers Mattman & Robin, and was accompanied by an adventurous, colorful animated lyric video from Saul Bass, Alex Popkin and the animation team at Ingenuity Studios in LA.
