"'Cause you see I'm a dinosaur / I should have died out a long time before," declares Hank Williams, Jr. in the chorus of "Dinosaur," before continuing: “Have pity on a dinosaur / Hand me my hat, excuse me man, but where’s the door?” On the very first listen, "Dinosaur" could be interpreted as a satire lampooning old-fashioned attitudes associated with country music, however, the offensive song—written with Bob Borbin—is rife with blatant homophobia and borne from a small-minded viewpoint. The track was included on Hank WIlliams, Jr.'s thirty-first studio album Habits Old and New, (1980) which plateaued at number four on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. In 2020, Hank Williams Jr. was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and in July 2023, "Dinosaur" worked its way back into the charts, reaching number 64 on the Billboard Hot 100 and shooting to number 13 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
