Etta James put the blues in dusting with her 2004 take on a popular standard. Written by the influential and mythology-ridden bluesman Robert Johnson in 1936, the boogie rhythm-led Dust My Broom – which, although open to interpretation, could be taken to mean 'leaving town in a hurry' – was originally titled I Believe I’ll Dust My Broom and was first etched into wax in 1951 by "King of the Slide Guitar" and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Elmore James. "I'm gettin' up soon in the mornin' / I believe I'll dust my broom / I'm gettin' up soon in the mornin' / I believe I'll dust my broom / I quit the best gal I'm lovin' / Now, my friends can get my room," boldly belts out Etta James in the song's opening verse. The multiple Grammy winner and all-round icon included "Dust My Broom" on her 2004 album of blues standards, Blues to the Bone, with the song also getting the cover treatment from ZZ Top, Ike & Tina Turner and Fleetwood Mac.
