Finding the King of Rock and Roll in crooning country music mode, You Asked Me To was written by Billy Joe Shaver and Waylon Jennings and originally recorded by the latter for his 1973 album Honky Tonk Heroes. In 1975, Elvis Presley took the song on for the first time, adding the track to his 1975 album Promised Land, while also featuring a new version on his 1981 posthumous album Guitar Man with an alternate upbeat arrangement, and reaching the Top 50 in the US. Injecting his trademark hot and cool swagger into a simple love song, Elvis Presley plays guitar as he sings animatedly: "Likened to no other feel / Simple love is simple truth / There's no end to what I'd do /Just because you asked me to."
