"Keep smilin', keep shinin' / Knowin' you can always count on me for sure / That's what friends are for / For good times and bad times / I'll be on your side forevermore / That's what friends are for," sing Dionne Warwick and Elton John, their voices blending together on "That's What Friends Are For". You'd be hard-pressed to find a better song about friendship than this heartwarming collaboration steered by six-time Grammy Award winner and 21st-century social media icon Dionne Warwick. Originally written by Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager, and first recorded by Rod Stewart in 1982, this 1985 version of That’s What Friends Are For is a collaborative love-in that also features Gladys Knight, piano Elton John, and harmonica from Stevie Wonder. The song shot to the top of the soul chart where it stayed for three weeks, also spending four weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1986, and profits from its sales were donated to The American Foundation for AIDS Research.
